Entertaiment

The word entertain comes from the Latin intertenere, combining the prefix inter, meaning inside, with tenere, Indo-European root of ten. The root of the word ten can also be found in the term SU2C, the Scientific Unity to Cure initiative, which brings together world-class scientists to speed up research breakthroughs and move them into major advances against cancer. According to Bates and Ferri (2010) Entertainment is understood objectively, encompasses communication between text and audience from an external stimulus, offers pleasure, requires an audience and occurs in a passive form.

A clown at a birthday party, a Broadway show, a stadium rock concert or even your friends fighting over the last potato chip are all forms of entertainment. It is an activity that stimulates the brain to release seratonin and dopamine – feelings that our evolution has shaped us to react deeply to.
