What Is Newsworthy?
News is an ongoing stream of information about events happening in the world. It can be delivered in a variety of ways including radio, television, newspaper and the internet. People consume news for many reasons but most often to stay informed about the world around them. The content of News can be controversial, inspiring, amusing, or just plain interesting. The way we make decisions about what is newsworthy varies with each person and culture.
It is generally accepted that the most important news should be prominently displayed, usually on the front page of a newspaper or aired first on television. Less important news might be placed later in a bulletin or on an inside page. Despite this, it is good to consume news from a variety of sources in order to get a broad view of the world around you. It is also helpful to avoid extreme news outlets, like Fox News or HuffPost, and instead read a more center publication, like The New York Times, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, or the BBC.
In general, the most interesting and significant news is about people. For example, celebrity gossip, public feuds, scandals and court cases are all important aspects of the news. Other important topics include natural disasters, political issues and war. Lastly, all societies are interested in stories about sex.
